Govt Mourns Tynwald High School Accident Victims
The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Dr. Evelyn Ndlovu has mourned the six Tynwald High School students who lost their lives when their bus veered off the road and overturned at the 75km peg along Rusape-Nyanga road near Pine Tree Hotel on Friday evening.
In a statement, the Ministry said it was saddened by the tragic event which left more than 39 members of staff and students injured.
“It is with regret that six pupils lost their lives and 39 staff and pupils were injured. We wish all those admitted to hospital a speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with the pupils and staff members, their loved ones and the Tynwald High school community at this difficult time. The Ministry would like to convey its condolences to the families, friends and the entire Tynwald High School family.
“We also wish to express our gratitude to the emergency and health personnel and members of the public including the Zimbabwe Republic Police for their swift response in assisting the victims after the tragic accident. The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education remains committed to the health and safety of all pupils and staff members at institutions that provide primary and secondary education as we strive to provide quality and wholesome education for all Zimbabweans,” read the statement
A memorial service was held at Tynwald High School yesterday with parents, teachers and other learners bidding farewell to the deceased students with burial of some victims set for today.
