Haulage Truck Runs Over Six Pedestrians
Six people died on the spot and five others injured after a haulage truck aboard four passengers failed to negotiate a curve and veered off the road and ran over six pedestrians at the 36kmpeg along the Harare-Mukumbura road Friday night.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident saying the names of the victims will be released in due course.
“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident that occurred at the 36km peg along the Harare–Mukumbura Road on 04/11/22 at around 2000 hours. A motorist who was driving a haulage truck due north with four passengers aboard failed to negotiate a curve, veered off the road to the right, and ran over six pedestrians before the haulage truck overturned and landed on its roof. As a result, six people, four pedestrians and two passengers died on the spot, while five others, including the driver, were injured. The names of the victims will be released in due course,” said the ZRP
The accident comes barely a day after three people lost their lives and several others were injured in another road accident involving an unregistered commuter omnibus and an Inter Africa bus along Seke Road in Harare yesterday morning.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the commuter omnibus, which was coming from town towards Chitungwiza, went through a red traffic light resulting in the collision.
