Teenager Beaten to Death For Stealing Mobile Phone

An 18-year-old man died in Harare’s Dzivaresekwa extension suburb after being assaulted by a mob for allegedly stealing a mobile phone last week, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has reported.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare province spokesperson Assistant Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the death of the teenager identified as Tinotenda Kashumba and the subsequent arrest of one suspect.
“The citizens should not take laws into their hands, if it happens that there is a citizen arrest people should bring in the culprit in to the hands of the police” said Inspector Chakanza.
Meanwhile, the ZRP is investigating a murder case in which a body of an unidentified male adult was found with a swollen eye and blood on the on Sunday at corner Caruthers Avenue and Waterhill in Eastlea.
The incident comes at a time cases of murder have soared in the country with the police raising alarm over the escalation.
