Sikhala’s Wife Found Guilty of Violating Road Rules
Incarcerated Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) lawmaker Job Sikhala’s wife Ellen has been found guilty of violating traffic regulations.
Ellen was arrested in September this year for driving against the flow of traffic while going to visit her husband at Chikurubi Maximum Prison and had her car impounded.
Her arrest drew condemnation from opposition CCC activists who accused the authorities of harassing Sikhala’s family. However, police then said the fact Ellen was Sikhala’s wife does not mean she can get away with breaking the law.
Ellen was ordered to pay ZW$30,000 fine and also barred from driving class 4 vehicles for 6 months and to surrender her driver’s licence to court clerk within 7 days.
Job Sikhala has been detained without trial for more than four months in Harare’s Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison.
Sikhala stands accused of inciting public violence in the wake of slain CCC activist Moreblessing Ali’s funeral in Chitungwiza’s Nyatsime area.
