A Bindura Magistrates Court has sentenced a 50 year old man to an effective 17 years in prison for raping his nine year old niece.
It is the State’s case that on January 13, 2023 the complainant and her mother went to the accused person’s home in Nekati Village, Bindura to visit him.
After the visit the complainant returned to the accused person’s home to ask for cucumbers.
The accused person then raped the minor and sent her away.
The matter came to light on the 16th of January 2023 when the complainants’ mother sent her to the accused’s home and she refused, before narrating to her of the previous incident leading to the accused person’s arrest. He was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment with 3 years suspended.
