A Harare man from Mufakose suburb was arraigned before the Harare Magistrates Court facing charges of attempting to murder his wife and indecently assaulting her.
It is the State case that on the 8th of June 2022, Dananai Zidenga (39) stabbed the complainant with a knife in both palms and on the forehead after he found her texting her boyfriend.
On the 21st of June 2022 the accused person arrived home drinking a quart of beer and asked for the full particulars of the complainant’s boyfriend and she gave him.
He then accused her of lying and went on to strike her with the bottle of beer on the head and it broke. He then stabbed her with the broken bottle on the chest, upper lip and on the head.
The accused person also ordered the complainant to remove her underwear and lie on her back on the bed. He then inserted crushed red chilies into the complainant’s genitals using his fingers.
The matter came to light when the complainant sent a text message to her father informing him of the incidents and he reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the accused person.
He was sentenced to 17 years imprisonment 4 years were suspended, he will serve an effective 13 years.
