Police Officer In Court For Stock Theft
By Court Reporter
A thirty five year old police officer stationed at Gwanda Rural Police Station has been arraigned before the Filabusi Magistrates Court on charges of stock theft.
The state alleges that sometime in July 2022 to August 2022 the accused person together with Bukhosi Ndlovu, Livious Sibanda and Takudzwa Conrad Satumba committed two counts of stock theft involving 23 cattle.
Eight herd of cattle belonged to Nkululeko Moyo whilst the other 15 belonged to Vivian Nyathi. The accused person fraudulently cleared the first 8 beasts in his co- accused Bukhosi Ndlovusi’s name and they were subsequently slaughtered.
He intended to clear the remaining 15 cattle but failed to do so when five of them went astray along the way to Gwanda from Filabusi and the accused persons went to look for them. They left the other 10 beasts unattended.
The beasts were then discovered by a member of the community who reported to the police leading to the arrest of the accused persons.
The matter has been remanded to the 7th of March 2023.
