Masvingo- In an incident that has left villagers from Mhari Village in Bikita, Masvingo shell shocked two people were arrested by local police in connection with a heinous murder.
The suspects, Clever Mavhunga (35) and Modina Mavhgunga (28) allegedly acting out of a misguided accusation of witchcraft, took turns assaulting their own father, Anisto Mavhunga (81), with wooden sticks.
The elderly man was indiscriminately struck all over his body, resulting in fatal injuries.
According to a police statement, the gruesome incident unfolded in the family’s home, leaving the community in a state of shock.
The authorities are investigating the case further to uncover any underlying issues that may have led to this horrifying act.
In an equally disturbing incident on the same day, tragedy struck in a bushy area near Ngundu Business Centre, where Fredrick Shamba (36) and Nyenyesai Tevera allegedly took the life of a man they accused of stealing Tevera’s money.
The victim, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was bound with a rope before being mercilessly assaulted with switches all over his body, resulting in his untimely death.
While Fredrick Shamba has been apprehended by the Ngundu police, Nyenyesai Tevera remains at large, prompting a manhunt in the area.
Local authorities are urging anyone with information regarding Tevera’s whereabouts to come forward and assist in bringing her to justice.
