AB Communications, the parent company of Business Times, convened its inaugural annual Telecommunications Conference in Harare on Thursday, gathering industry players to address pertinent challenges within the sector.
Group Editor-in-Chief of AB Communications, Moses Matenga, articulated the conference’s objective.
“We decided to bring the communications stakeholders together in order to discuss challenges that affect the communications industry and map the way forward on how these challenges can be ratified collectively.”
The event welcomed the Honorable Minister Mavetera, Minister of ICT, as the guest of honor.
Minister Mavetera underscored power challenges as a significant contributor to poor connectivity.
Alfred Marisa, Deputy Director General of POTRAZ, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the impact of power shortages on connectivity.
In alignment with government and regulatory bodies like POTRAZ, telecommunications stakeholders pledged to collaborate in overcoming connectivity barriers, particularly targeting the unconnected population.
The conference, themed “Connect the Unconnected: Bridging the Digital Divide,” attracted key industry players including Econet, Netone, Telone, Liquid Intelligent Technologies, Institute for Sustainability Africa, and the Bridging the Fibre and 5G Gap.
“We achieved our goal at AB Communications by bringing together the government, the regulator, and stakeholders,” concluded the Editor-in-Chief of AB Communications.
