Murder Over Cigarette Dispute Shocks Chitungwiza

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have confirmed the arrest of Prince Gwashure, 46, in connection with a brutal murder that took place in Chitungwiza.

The incident, which occurred on July 6, 2024, along Kunaka Street in Unit C, left the local community in shock.

According to the ZRP, the altercation began as a minor dispute over a cigarette.

 “The suspect assaulted the victim with clenched fists and feet indiscriminately following a misunderstanding over a cigarette,”  a police statement stated.

The victim, identified as 44-year-old Manfred Mujuru, sustained severe injuries in the attack.

Mujuru was rushed to Chitungwiza Central Hospital for treatment. Despite the medical team’s efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on July 9, 2024.

The tragic event has sparked conversations about the rising levels of violence in the area and the need for community-based conflict resolution mechanisms. Residents are expressing their grief and concern, calling for greater efforts to prevent such senseless acts of violence.

As the investigation continues, the ZRP is urging the public to come forward with any information that could assist in the case.

The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and maintaining peace and security in Chitungwiza.
