Comedian Felistas Murata, popularly known as Mai TT, has been sentenced to a fine of US$30 or 30 days in jail for missing a court appearance while attending her father’s funeral.
Murata was scheduled to appear in court on August 19, 2024, as the complainant in a perjury case against Melissa Munyorove.
Mai TT came to court accompanied by her lawyer Mr. Tafadzwa Muvhami to have the warrant of arrest issued against her cancelled.
Mr. Muvhami submitted to court that her client defaulted court because her father had passed on and she was attending the funeral.
The prosecutor objected to Murata’s application, demanding that she be imprisoned for failing to present a burial order or death certificate to verify her claim of attending her father’s funeral.
Magistrate Lyn Chinzou determined that Murata had wilfully defaulted court and imposed a fine of US$30 or one month of imprisonment.
