Businessman Wicknell Chivayo has made headlines once again after gifting a brand-new Toyota Fortuner to Daisy Mtukudzi, widow of the late musical icon Oliver Mtukudzi.
Posting on social media, Chivayo paid tribute to Mtukudzi’s legacy, describing him as an unparalleled musical genius whose contributions transcended borders and left an indelible mark on Zimbabwe’s socio-political landscape.
Chivayo, reflecting on his admiration for Mtukudzi’s music, highlighted songs like “Hazvireve Rudo Handina” and “Mutserendende” as deeply poetic tracks that showcased the legendary artist’s genius.
“You were our national pride, and your husky voice transcended international borders, setting you apart from any other musician in Zimbabwe or Southern Africa,” Chivayo said.
The businessman’s gesture comes amid ongoing tensions in the Mtukudzi family.
Nonetheless, Chivayo expressed his respect for Daisy, describing her as the “one and only official wife” of the national hero.
He encouraged her to collect the brand-new vehicle from Auto-Expo Car Sales, framing it as a token of appreciation for her husband’s profound impact on the music industry.
Mtukudzi, who passed away in 2019, was not only celebrated for his music but was also honored posthumously as Zimbabwe’s first musician to be declared a national hero.
Chivayo also noted Tuku’s recent recognition at the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival in South Africa, a prestigious accolade that further solidified his legendary status.
