Two slay queens who were trending on social media on allegations of stealing US$4 500 from a local man they met at Mashwede, are now off the hook after their matter has been declined during vetting at the Mbare Magistrates Court due to the complainant’s absence.
Makanaka Mukundwa, 20, Mellisa Katiyo, 22 appeared at Mbare Magistrates Court represented by their lawyer Tafadzwa Muvhami of Muvhami Attorneys.
It’s puzzling that Matutu, the managing director of Oratash Property Developers, didn’t attend the court hearing, especially considering he offered a reward for the girls’ arrest.
According to court papers, the State alleges that on 23 November 2024 at around 2030 hours Matutu arrived at Hippodrome to attend Mashwede end of year Christmas party.
He parked his car a BMW 120D and he placed his money US$ 4 500-00 in the dashboard. He closed all the windows and locked the car using the central locking system and got into the hall.
Further allegations are that at around 0100 hours Matutu met with the two accused persons and stated drinking beer in the presence of hoe personal body guard Wilbert Smith and waiter Nisbert January. In the process the complainant got very drunk and took Mukundwa and Katiyo to his motor vehicle where he fell asleep.
The pair took advantage of Mututu’s drunken state, acted in common purpose and unlawfully took cash US$ 4 500-00 from the dashboard and went away unnoticed.
At around 0200 hours Matutu woke up and went back to the hall to look for the two accused persons but he could not locate them. He then proceeded to his motor vehicle and discovered that his cash US$ 4 500-00.
Upon further search he allegedly noticed that the two slay queens left their two handbags and two pairs of shoes at the back seat. He tried to look for them but could not locate them.
The complainant filed a Police report which led to the arrest of the two accused persons.
Total value stolen is US$ 4 500-00, and nothing was recovered.
According to their lawyer, Tafadzwa Muvhami, the fact that the pair have been released does not mean they have no case to answer.
“They will be summoned to court when their accuser, Mpilo Matutu, 29, is available.” Muvhami said.
