Police are investigating circumstances around a shooting incident in which an unidentified man was shot and seriously injured at Russian Embassy in Harare after he had approached a police officer manning the premises.
The incident occurred around 1900hrs on Wednesday and it could not be established why the victim who has since been taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital was shot.
Unconfirmed reports had suggested that the man had tried to disarm a security guard at the embassy with some witnesses saying the victim was clad in army uniform.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident saying investigations are ongoing to ascertain the motive behind the incident.
“We confirm that there has been a shooting incident at Russian Embassy in Harare where a suspect approached a policeman on duty and as a result there was a shooting incident. The suspect is at Parirenyatwa Hospital. We will release more details tomorrow as we are still conducting investigations,” he said.
