In a concerning development, the Israeli military has ordered Palestinians to evacuate Rafah, a city in southern Gaza, signaling a potential offensive that threatens the lives of 1.4 million civilians displaced by the ongoing conflict.
The order comes after a night of intense Israeli bombardment, which resulted in the deaths of 22 people in Rafah, including eight children.
Ambassador Dr. Tamer Almassri has issued a stark warning, expressing grave concerns over the potential consequences of a military offensive in Rafah. He emphasized that such an action would lead to mass atrocities and significant civilian casualties.
Dr. Almassri called on the international community and Israel’s allies to intervene and prevent this dangerous escalation.
“An offensive in Rafah will only further escalate the violence and suffering in Gaza. The Palestinian people will not abandon their homeland and will continue to resist the Israeli occupation using all means necessary and in accordance with international law to achieve their independent state.” ” Dr. Almassri said
Dr. Almassri further condemned Israeli policies of displacement and genocide, warning that such actions only serve to increase instability in the region and around the world.
Meanwhile, the toll of the conflict continues to rise, with at least 34,683 Palestinians killed and 78,018 wounded in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 2023.
