Six Zanu PF members died on Saturday evening and 18 others were seriously injured when an Isuzu truck they were travelling on was involved in a head on collision with another truck along the Murambinda-Betera road in Buhera.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident saying the victims were taken to Murambinda Hospital.

“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 25/03/23 along Murambinda – Betera Road, near Mugombe Primary School, in which six people died while 18 others were injured when an Isuzu lorry with 40 passengers on board was involved in a head on collision with a Nissan Diesel truck which had one passenger on board.

“The bodies of the victims were taken to Murambinda Hospital mortuary for postmortem whilst the injured are admitted at the same hospital. The police is investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident,” said Assistant Commissioner Nyathi

Zanu PF held its primary elections on Saturday in a contest to choose candidates to stand on the ruling party ticket in the forthcoming harmonised elections with the process spilling over into Sunday in some parts of the country.

ZANU PF’s rescheduled elections have been overlapped to Sunday due to what the party says was overwhelming voting response from party supporters.
