Chinese National Appears In Court for Selling Rented Car

A 34 year old Chinese national has appeared in court after he sold a car he had rented.

According to court papers, the car is valued at US$98 000.

Meng Dong appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Ndirowei charged with theft of trust property. The matter was rolled over to Wednesday for bail application.

The complainant in this matter is Sun Hao, a Chinese male adult aged 51 years.

The State represented by Lancelot Mutsokoti alleges that on the 2nd of February 2024 and at around 1400 hours, Dongo requested for a motor vehicle from Hao to use for only four days.

He was given a pearl white Nissan Patrol.

The State further alleges that on the 5th of February 2024 and at around 1200 hours, Dongo proceeded to Wiltech Auto Trade Car Sale located at number 4 Enterprise Road, Harare where he sold Hao’s car purporting to be the owner’s agent using fake documents.

When Hao approached Dongo intending to collect his car and was advised that it had been used as loan collateral for a loan he (Dongo) had borrowed. He then decided to make a Police report at ZRP Highlands.

Further allegations are that on 3 March 2024 Dongo was arrested and he led detectives to the recovery of the stolen car from Wilberforce Ruzvidzo of Wiltech Auto Trade, Carsale Harare who had bought it from him.

Total value stolen is US$98 000-00 and was all recovered.
