‘Police Officers Accused of Sharing $22k from Crime Scene’

Three police officers, who are alleged to have stolen US$22,000 from two security guards involved in a theft of US$53,000 from a crime scene, have been brought before the court following the police’s request for an extension of their detention.

Since Asima, Weston Muzoriwa and Perseverance Chisango appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi who granted the Warrant for Further Detention. They will be back in court on Friday.

The accused are being charged with the Crime of Criminal Abuse of Duty as Public Officers.

They are being held in connection with a crime which occurred at Nyamayaro village Chief Chinhamora Chishawasha at number 1426 Hatcliffe Extension, Harare on 6th and 8th March 2024.

The State alleged that on 6 March 2024, the three accused persons together with other three accomplices namely Constable Paradzai Matubu, Constable Fredrick Moyo and Constable Prosper Chimbumu who are still at large received information to the effect that Conilius Muchikange and Nesbert Kachungwe committed a crime of theft at Quest Financial Services on the 25th February 2024.

They reportedly arrested the two and recovered cash amounting to US$22 000-00, then released the two and shared the cash amongst themselves.
