Cricketer Gary Ballance has signed a two year contract with Zimbabwe Cricket to play domestic and international cricket after his release from Yorkshire County cricket club contract.

His return to his country of birth will be received with great delight after the Chevrons struggles in the batting department for years.

In a statement, Zimbabwe Cricket director Hamilton Masakadza said the 33 year old return is a great addition to the game.

“We are elated to have Gary, an immensely talented and experienced cricketer, back home where it all started for him. He is a great addition to our domestic and international set-up and we are looking forward to him making a massive difference for us,” Masakadza said.

Ballance was released from his Yorkshire contract after a racism scandal in November 2021 and missed the 2022 season, he was set miss out on the 2023 County season.

The batter said he is excited to join the team and he is keen to start a new found passion.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Zimbabwe Cricket and can’t wait to start work with some great coaches and talented players. The opportunity to represent Zimbabwe has given me a new-found passion and excitement for the game. I have kept in touch with a number of people within Zimbabwe cricket over the years and it has been great to watch their recent progress especially.” said Ballance
