Pair Jailed For Robbing Zupco Bus Conductor

A Bulawayo Magistrates has sentenced two men to four years in prison for assaulting and robbing a Zupco bus conductor in June 2022.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the pair bought ZUPCO bus tickets from a ZUPCO ticket seller in Bulawayo and they were not given change and later demanded their change from the conductor.

“Nhlanhla Gangeni (25) and Siphosenkosi Gangeni (21) were sentenced to 4 years imprisonment on the 3rd of January 2023 at the Tredgold Magistrates Court for robbing a ZUPCO bus conductor of 2 000 RTGS. The National Prosecuting Authority proved to the court that on the 28 of June 2021 the accused persons bought ZUPCO bus tickets from a ZUPCO ticket seller in Bulawayo and they were not given change.

“The two boarded the bus and later demanded their change from the conductor who told them to get it from the ticket seller. The accused persons assaulted the conductor and robbed him of 2 000 RTGS which belonged to ZUPCO leading to their arrest. Further to the 4 year jail term sentence the accused persons are to pay restitution of 2 000 RTGS to ZUPCO,” said the NPA The country has witnessed an upsurge of robbery cases over the past few years
