Gweru Teenager Murdered After Beer Dispute

In a tragic turn of events, two separate murder cases have rocked the cities of Gweru and Chiredzi, resulting in the loss of two young lives.

Police have made significant progress in the Gweru incident, apprehending two suspects, while in Chiredzi, a manhunt is underway for the assailant who remains at large.

According to national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the victim, Ashley Majera, an 18-year-old resident of Gweru, was allegedly attacked following a dispute over beer.

“Police in Gweru have arrested Dontcans Bhobho (25) and Wedzerai Chinongwa (41) in connection with a case of murder which occurred on 28/04/23 at a night club at Ascot Extension Business Centre, where the victim, Ashley Majera (18), died after allegedly being attacked by the suspects, following a dispute over beer.

“Dontcans Bhobho allegedly hit the victim with a beer bottle and a stone on the head, while Wedzerai Chinhongwa stabbed him with a knife on the legs.” Said national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi

Meanwhile, in Chiredzi, another murder case occurred on the same day, leaving the community shocked, the suspect, only identified as Jordan, is believed to have stabbed the victim with an unknown sharp object following a heated argument over a girlfriend at a local beer hall.

The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Police in Chiredzi have launched an extensive manhunt to apprehend the suspect, who is currently on the run urging anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of the suspect to report it immediately to the nearest police station.
