Pastry Chef Falls In Love With Gospel Music

By Samuel Dzingirai

Harare based pastry chef Kenny Fuyana is basking in glory with the support that he gets from his family as he also doubles as a gospel musician.

The Bulawayo born chef who has showcased his art of pastry in countries such as United Arab Emirates, China, South Africa, Mauritius and others says there is no way he will quit both pastry and music.

Chef Kenny as he is known at a local hotel where he works paid tribute to his granny and family members for his success.

“I started to sing when I was still at primary school, I used to compose songs for cultural groups within the school and I would perform them. This came out as a passion, I can say. I then started singing in the school choir, church choir, even during praise and worship sessions. Cooking came as an inspiration from my grandmother; she taught me all basic cooking and baking skills. There was a lot of baking material at home and I always fantasized on it.

“There is no way I can quite either of the two, I have invested so much on them and I love both. Taking a path as musician especially in Zimbabwe is something unacceptable from several family members, as a world class chef my family member were not offended, they are very supportive and they are proud to know I could get to where I am right now”, said Chef Kenny

Despite facing hurdles in his musical career, Kenny says he is currently working on a number of projects and hopes to have collaboration with renowned Nigerian afro-highlife praise and worship singer and songwriter Frank Edwards

“I recorded my first song in June 2020 and released the track on the 2nd of September 2020. Gospel is my life, Jesus Christ is my saviour and I’m on an assignment to share the good news in music. I’m busy working on other projects soon to be released and more of my music is trending on my YouTube channel.

“The challenges that I face mostly are finance based as it is quite expensive to produce quality music. I can say I am currently investing in my music with hope for growth. In the near future even though it is quite unpredictable but I would love to have recorded most of my albums, well-travelled and done most of my collaboration tracks with the likes of Frank Edward, Minister GUC, Steve Crown and more,” said Chef Kenny.
